Mission
The mission of the Dyersburg Fire Department Training Division is to develop and maintain job skills of the Department’s firefighters and to provide training to new fire recruits.
The training & safety director provides research, development and delivery of quality educational programs based upon current standards related to the emergency service profession. These educational programs enable our members to provide the most professional emergency services to our community. The training division prepares and delivers numerous programs designed to make our members knowledgeable and safe.
Fire operations personnel participate in the TN Firefighting Commission state in-service training program as well as the certification program. New recruits participate in a 16 hour Intro to Fire & Emergency Services course followed up with a rigorous 64 hour basic firefighting course. The recruits must undergo a live burn drill before satisfying all state fire training requirements.
In conjunction with the Tennessee Fire & Codes Academy the training division also delivers professional development courses designed to prepare the member for advancement through the ranks of the department.
The Firefighter, Fire Apparatus Operator, and Company Officer programs are all based on current NFPA performance standards. The training division also provides specialized training opportunities for our members in disciplines such as hazardous materials mitigation and technical rescue.
