Special
Operations Response Team
The
Special Operations Response Team (SORT) is a combination of
two highly trained and skilled units; The Special Response
Team and the Critical Incident/Hostage Negotiations Team.
Both units are under one commander.
Dyersburg Police
Department's Special Response Team (SRT) responds and deals
with extraordinary situations such as barricaded suspects,
high risk warrant service & hostage situations. The teams
consists of ten members broken into two 5-member entry teams.As with any modern
agency, our SRT Unit is equipped with the latest in specialized
gear including weapons and technology.
The
team
has received extensive training in tactical operations with
emphasis on civilian and officer safety. Specialized areas
of training have included a variety of weapon systems, light
and sound distraction devices, tactical chemical agents deployment,
methods of building entry, repelling, land navigation, surveillance,
explosives, team medics, team tactics and operations. The
SRT Team members attend nationally recognized individual and
team training programs annually, as well as monthly in-house
training.
