Chaplain
Dr. Joe Wright has served as the Chaplain to the Dyersburg Fire Department since 2006 and also serves as the Director of Missions for the 44 churches of the Dyer Baptist Association located in Northwest Tennessee. Dr. Wright has been a minister for over 25 years and pastored churches in Tennessee, North Carolina and Mississippi before returning to his home state. He is active in local church ministries, missions development and pastoral support. He is also very involved in disaster relief and management.
With experience both in church ministries and community ministries, Dr. Wright serves the Fire Department as well as the community at large. His duties as Fire Chaplain primarily include:
- Providing ministry support designed to meet the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of Fire Service personnel and/or their families. The types of situations that may need Chaplain support are serious illness, injury, death or significant emotional trauma.
- Supporting Firefighters and Chief Officers in dealing with traumatic situations, such as line of duty death or serious injury notifications to family members. Also assists in coordination with the family during times of death, serious injury, serious illness or other difficult and emotional situations.
- Ministers support to victims in the event of crisis, such as fire, accidents, storms, earthquake, etc.
